Mihailo Fedorov, the former Minister of Defense of Ukraine, estimated in an interview with CBS News that Ukraine could be capable of launching domestically manufactured ballistic missiles against Russia within 3-6 months.
The defense equipment manufacturer Fire Point announced a few days ago that its first ballistic missile will be ready this autumn.
Irina Tereh, who is also the technical director of Fire Point, stated to Politico that the company is close to completing the development of the tactical short-range ballistic missile FP-7.
With a range of 200 kilometers and a payload of 150 kilograms, the missile can strike ground targets and is also adapted for use in air defense systems.
The company Fire Point is also developing the FP-9 ballistic missile, equipped with a payload of 800 kilograms and a range of up to 855 kilometers, which places Moscow within its range.
Although Ukraine has primarily relied on drones and cruise missiles for attacks, ballistic missiles would be harder for Russian forces to intercept.
In this context, Fedorov emphasized the importance of defeating Russia in every technological cycle, mentioning that while Ukraine is innovating rapidly, Russia is advancing as well.
On Sunday, Ukraine carried out one of the largest drone attacks since the beginning of the war, causing a fire at a warehouse near Moscow and resulting in at least six deaths. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that it shot down 1,478 Ukrainian drones in a single day, a record. The attack targeted a rocket fuel production facility in the Rostov region of Russia.
