The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated on Thursday that his country is making significant progress in developing its own missile defense system in the context of daily airstrikes from Russia. Zelensky mentioned that Ukraine aims to finalize this missile defense system by 2027, emphasizing that local arms manufacturers have already met the necessary standards.

The emerging system, named FREYJA, is intended to be an effective and cost-efficient alternative to the American Patriot system. However, Ukraine is facing a shortage of interceptors, and Zelensky has requested allies to provide missiles from their stockpiles. Additionally, American President Donald Trump discussed the possibility of allowing Ukraine to produce Patriot systems but emphasized that the subject is still under discussion. Zelensky expresses his desire to also obtain Tomahawk missiles to counter Russian threats.
