In Mexico City, a group of protesters caused violent clashes, tearing down the fences around the National Palace, the residence of President Claudia Sheinbaum. The intervention of anti-riot police, including the use of tear gas, resulted in the injury of 100 police officers and 20 civilians, as well as the arrest of 20 individuals. The street movements were triggered by the assassination, on November 1, of the mayor of Uruapan, Carlos Manzo, and the demonstrators demanded tougher measures against crime.
The protests were organized by the group "Generation Z Mexico," which claims to be apolitical and says it represents young people fed up with violence and corruption, while the Sheinbaum government questions their motivations and suggests that they are largely orchestrated by the political opposition.
