These demonstrations, organized by young people and civil groups, were provoked by corruption and crime, culminating in the dismissal of former president Dina Boluarte. Protesters clashed with the police, and a 32-year-old man, Eduardo Mauricio Ruiz, was killed, an incident that will be investigated. The new interior minister, Vicente Tiburcio, promised a comprehensive reform of the national police, while Alvarez requested Congress to grant him the authority to legislate in the field of public safety.
