In an interview on Romania TV, the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, stated that the reduction of judges' pensions and the increase of the retirement age do not require constitutional amendments, but rather technical and administrative solutions. He emphasized that between 2017 and 2022, judges' pensions were often higher than salaries, which surprised international journalists.

"So, if I am not mistaken, between 2017 - 2022, we simply had, in the justice system, pensions higher than salaries. I gave interviews to some foreign journalists and they made me repeat. They thought I didn't understand English well. So, instead of encouraging them to stay, to work more for you - since the state paid for their university and paid for their training throughout their lives - you give them some pensions to encourage them to leave, to not work anymore. This is something that could not be understood." said the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, in an interview on Romania TV on Sunday evening.
