JD Vance has raised an alarm regarding possible issues in air traffic during the holiday season, in the event that the government shutdown extends until Thanksgiving Day. After a meeting with officials from the aviation industry, Vance emphasized that a continuation of the shutdown could lead to employee absences, longer lines at security checks, and significant flight delays.
Airlines, including Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, have urged Congress to quickly pass a temporary funding bill to reopen the government. The shutdown has already caused flight delays due to a lack of air traffic controllers, severely impacting the economy and the number of bookings. 13,000 air traffic controllers and 50,000 agents from the Department of Transportation Security are working without pay, raising safety concerns in traffic.
