U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said Thursday at the White House that the situation in Iran “is not a war,” although the United States has struck Iranian targets twice in recent days. The statement comes amid domestic political pressure in the U.S. and uncertainty over how long the confrontations will last.

Vance argued that there are currently no exchanges of fire and refused to indicate a possible date for the end of hostilities. One of the U.S. attacks killed four people attending a wedding, and Iran threatened retaliation. The vice president said Washington is conducting an investigation, but expressed skepticism toward information disseminated by the Iranian state media.

At the same time, the U.S. administration says that traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, blocked by Tehran on March 1, has returned to nearly its pre-conflict level. Donald Trump claimed that between 30 and 40 ships pass through the strait each night.
