WSJ: JD Vance and Marco Rubio reportedly fear that the war against Iran could last until 2029

Donald Trump claims that the war between the United States and Iran will end immediately after the November midterm elections, but his top advisers are considering the possibility that the conflict could continue until the end of the presidential term, in January 2029, according to The Wall Street Journal.

A few hours before a speech addressed to Republican supporters, Trump stated that Iran could no longer withstand American pressure and was trying to influence the elections to bring leaders to power who would be willing to allow it to develop a nuclear weapon.

Behind the scenes, Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and other officials reportedly discussed with the president the possibility that Tehran could continue resisting the blockade and other military operations. Such a scenario would prolong the war at least until 2029, despite Trump's optimistic statements.

Vance has recently adopted a more cautious tone and refused to indicate a date for the end of the conflict. Its prolongation would put pressure on American military resources, could disrupt oil markets, and would become a major issue in the 2028 presidential campaign. Vance and Rubio are considered possible Republican candidates for the White House.
