On Sunday, Ukrainian armed forces attacked an important power plant in the area of the capital of the Russian Federation with drones, causing a fire and forcing local authorities to activate the backup system for electricity and heating supply. The governor of the Moscow region, Andrei Vorobiov, stated that the attack targeted the plant in Shatura, located about 120 km east of Moscow. Images posted on Telegram show explosions and flames rising into the air. Some drones were destroyed by Russian air defense, but others fell on the plant's grounds, causing fires at three transformers. Vorobiov mentioned that backup power sources were activated and mobile heating systems were installed, considering the low temperatures in the area. Russia, which has attacked Ukraine's energy infrastructure in recent months, relies on inherited thermal power plants from the Soviet era to supply homes.
