On Saturday morning, Ukraine was the target of a significant attack on its energy network, causing power outages in much of the country, according to the electricity company Ukrenergo. This attack is part of a long-standing campaign by Russia, which has led to the worst energy crisis of 2022. Authorities in Kyiv reported power outages, in conditions where temperatures have dropped drastically, reaching -5 °C and expected to fall to -20 °C.
In addition, the Polish army announced the deployment of aircraft to protect its airspace against Russian threats. These bombings occurred after an incident in which a Russian official was injured, and recent diplomatic discussions between Russia and Ukraine in Abu Dhabi led to a prisoner exchange. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky mentioned that his negotiating team will present a report on the sensitive aspects of the negotiations.
