A few days after Trump criticized Russia for testing a nuclear missile with unlimited range, he announced that the United States would resume nuclear tests, acknowledging the 'destructive power' of nuclear weapons. In a post, Trump stated that he had 'no other choice' but to modernize the U.S. nuclear arsenal during his first term. He also mentioned that China's nuclear program would be a threat in the next five years. The post came ahead of the meeting with Xi Jinping in South Korea, marking a significant shift from long-standing American policy, considering that the last U.S. nuclear test took place in 1992, under George HW Bush's administration. Trump noted that the testing process would begin immediately, and the site in Nevada, where previous tests occurred, could be authorized again for nuclear tests if deemed necessary.
