A Euronews team investigated the differences between TikTok and Douyin, the two social media applications developed by ByteDance. While Douyin, available in China, offers predominantly educational content, TikTok, the international version, focuses on entertainment, including dances and humorous videos. An experiment conducted by Euronews showed that Douyin includes options for parents to select the type of content their children can watch, while TikTok has a mode for young users, but with less educational content.

In 2021, China imposed a law that limits the use of social media applications by children, setting a limit of 40 minutes per day for users under 14 years old. The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, commented on these differences, stating that China's strategy is to provide educational content for youth, while the international version of TikTok could "poison" the minds of young people. This discussion highlights concerns about the impact of technology on children's development.
