The Trump administration has decided to establish a new militarized zone of approximately 760 acres in California, at the border with Mexico, to strengthen border security operations. The Department of the Interior stated that this zone will be under the jurisdiction of the Marines and will allow the detention of illegal immigrants suspected of trespassing on American territory. The area, which will be active for three years, will extend from the western border of the Otay Mountain wilderness area to approximately one mile west of the California-Arizona state line. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum emphasized that this action supports President Trump's national priorities focused on securing the border and restoring American sovereignty. It was also mentioned that the heavy traffic of illegal crossings contributes to significant national security challenges and environmental degradation. This measure aligns with other recent initiatives to expand military authority at the southern border, including the deployment of federal troops and strengthening rules against illegal immigration.
