Donald Trump announced new tariffs on imports of drones and their components

American President Donald Trump announced on Thursday the imposition of new tariffs on imports of drones and their components, as part of a national security strategy. According to a statement from the White House, a 100% tariff will be applied to large drones or those with sensitive capabilities, while smaller drones will face a 25% tariff.

Additionally, a 15% tariff will affect drones and components from the European Union, Japan, Liechtenstein, South Korea, Switzerland, and Taiwan, while a 10% tariff will be applied to drones from the United Kingdom. The measures will take effect on September 3, and some conditions may reduce tariffs for allies.

The Trump administration justifies these measures by the need to reduce dependence on foreign products and to stimulate the domestic drone industry. This decision comes in the context of trade tensions with China, amid a scheduled meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
