Rumen Radev recently rejected the legislative amendments that would have allowed the government in Sofia to take control of the Lukoil refinery in Burgas, in the context of the sanctions imposed by the US on Russian oil.

Radev sent the law back to parliament, arguing that the amendments do not protect the state from potential financial claims and violate the constitution. Although parliament can override his veto, Radev emphasized the financial risks involved. Additionally, Bulgaria has requested an exemption from the sanctions imposed by the US, and the energy minister assured that fuel supply is guaranteed, despite the impact of the sanctions on Bulgarian companies associated with Lukoil.
