Unlike last year, the police in Hungary announced on Friday that the Pride march scheduled for June 27 in Budapest will not be banned. Authorities stated that, following consultations with the organizers, they found no grounds to prohibit the event. The new prime minister, Peter Magyar, a pro-European conservative, expressed support for equality and the freedom of assembly, but did not take a clear stance in favor of the Pride march nor announced the cancellation of the restrictive laws adopted under Orban.
The police have imposed measures to maintain distance between the Pride march and three counter-demonstrations planned. In March 2025, over 200,000 people participated in the Pride march, considered an act of resistance against the bans imposed by the former government. The Court of Justice of the European Union recently ruled that legislation banning Pride marches violated EU law.
