The discussions in Istanbul between Afghanistan and Pakistan, aimed at negotiating a long-term ceasefire, ended without a solution, affecting the prospects for peace in the region. These negotiations took place after serious violence at the border, resulting in dozens of deaths. Although both parties agreed to a mediated ceasefire in Doha on October 19, during the second round of discussions, they failed to reach a consensus.

Involved sources mentioned that the Afghan Taliban were unwilling to control the Pakistani Taliban groups, which led to tensions in the discussions. Recent clashes, triggered by Pakistani airstrikes, have resulted in casualties on both sides. The failure of the negotiations could complicate relations between the two countries, with the risk of leading to open conflict.
