Pakistan has announced that it has carried out airstrikes in eastern Afghanistan, targeting the dissident faction Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, which is part of the Pakistani Taliban. The Pakistani Minister of Information, Attaullah Tarar, stated that the precision strikes took place in the provinces of Paktia, Paktika, and Kunar, resulting in the deaths of at least 25 people.

These operations were triggered in response to a recent attack on a base of the paramilitary Rangers in Karachi. Tarar emphasized that Jamaat-ul-Ahrar is responsible for the attacks in Pakistan, while the Taliban government's spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, condemned the airstrikes as an "act of blatant aggression," claiming that they caused civilian casualties.

Pakistan accuses Afghanistan of harboring fighters from the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a claim that Afghan authorities contest.
