The European Commission has announced an investment of 225 million euros for the development of a new generation of flu vaccines, which are expected to provide protection against a broader spectrum of virus variants and can be rapidly adapted in the event of a pandemic strain emergence.
According to the institution, the funding will support vaccines that are easier to administer, including nasal, oral, or transdermal patch methods, as well as the expansion of production capacity, so that the new solutions can reach national vaccination programs more quickly. Contracts will run for a period of 98 months and will cover clinical development up to the authorization for market introduction.
