The European Union has decided, following intense negotiations, to approve a major support package for Ukraine, worth 90 billion euros, after Hungary lifted the veto that was blocking the decision. This loan is intended to support the functioning of the Ukrainian state and cover essential expenses, especially in the context of the ongoing war. The funds will be used to support the army, the functioning of the state, and the payment of public expenses, covering a large part of Kyiv's financial needs for the period 2026-2027.
At the same time, the 20th package of sanctions against Russia was adopted, targeting sectors such as energy, finance, and maritime transport. Hungary initially blocked the agreement due to disputes related to Russian oil deliveries, but after the resumption of oil flow and internal political changes, it lifted the veto. European officials emphasize that this decision reflects the EU's ongoing commitment to support Ukraine and to sanction Russia's aggression in a tense geopolitical context.
