The Danish government emphasized that Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte cannot negotiate on behalf of Denmark or Greenland regarding the future of the Arctic island, following a meeting between Donald Trump and the NATO Secretary General. Although progress has been made in discussions about Greenland, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen reaffirmed that the country's sovereignty cannot be negotiated. Rutte stated that allies need to increase their presence in the Arctic, while Trump backed off from threats to occupy the island.

European leaders welcomed the agreement but were cautious, highlighting the need to continue collaboration within NATO for Arctic security. The dispute has generated tensions in trade relations between the EU and the US, and European officials have proposed retaliatory measures against Trump's actions.
