The British government has promised that millions of train travelers will benefit from significant savings by regulating fares, including for season tickets and peak-time single and return tickets. This measure applies in England and to services operated by English train operators. For example, commuters using flexible season tickets will save up to £315 a year on the Milton Keynes - London route. The changes are part of the Labour Party's plans to create a public railway company, Great British Railways, and include initiatives such as the tap in-tap out system and digital tickets. Chancellor Rachel Reeves emphasized that this is the first regulation of rail fares in 30 years, noting that it will ease financial pressure on households. Unions and passenger groups have welcomed this measure, considering it an opportunity to make travel more accessible and to promote more sustainable transport alternatives.
