Railway accident in Great Britain: 20 passengers injured after a train derailed

A passenger train operated by Southern Railway derailed in East Sussex county, England, injuring 20 passengers, two of whom are in serious condition.

The train, which was carrying approximately 150 people, departed from London Victoria to Eastbourne and derailed around 3:45 PM, between Cooksbridge and Lewes. The last three carriages overturned, and passengers were evacuated by emergency teams. Of the injured, 18 were taken to the hospital, while two presented themselves.

Witnesses described moments of panic, and a possible cause of the accident could be the extreme heatwave, which caused the railway tracks to warp. Authorities are investigating the incident, and rail traffic in the area remains affected. This is the second major train accident in Great Britain in less than two months.
