The Valencia court announced that the body of a man missing in the devastating floods of October 2024 has been recovered nearly a year after the disaster. DNA analyses confirmed the identity of the victim, who was 56 years old and went missing during the floods in Pedralba. The body was found in Manises, about 30 kilometers from the place of disappearance. The total death toll from the floods remains at 229 in the Valencia region, while another eight people died in the regions of Castile-La Mancha and Andalusia.
The floods were caused by heavy rains, a phenomenon known as "cold drop," exacerbated by climate change and excessive urbanization. The disaster generated criticism regarding the management of alerts and rescue operations, causing tensions between the central administration and regional authorities. State funerals for the victims are scheduled to take place next Wednesday in Valencia.
