According to the Wall Street Journal, Donald Trump's peace initiative for Ukraine includes proposals that would allow the resumption of Russian energy exports to Europe. The plan also provides for the resumption of American investments in strategic sectors in Russia, such as rare earth mining and oil drilling in the Arctic region. Trump would like to use frozen Russian sovereign assets, estimating an access of about 200 billion dollars for American financial firms, intended for projects in Ukraine, including a data center powered by the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
A European official compared these energy agreements to an economic version of the Yalta conference of 1945, when the great powers divided their spheres of influence in Europe.
