The super-typhoon Fung-wong, locally known as Uwan, has intensified and has been classified at level 5, the highest, in the Philippines. Over 100,000 residents from the eastern and northern regions have been evacuated in preparation for the expected devastating impact, which includes winds of 185 km/h and gusts of up to 230 km/h. The typhoon is forecasted to reach the shore in Aurora province in central Luzon, and power outages have already been reported in certain areas.
Images from Camarines Sur show evacuees transporting luggage and personal belongings, while a local bridge has been affected by the strong gusts. Over 300 domestic and international flights have been canceled due to severe weather conditions. Fung-wong is approaching the Philippines shortly after typhoon Kalmaegi caused 204 deaths and significant destruction, including in Vietnam, where five additional casualties have been reported.
