On Wednesday, the territory of Greece was affected by a severe weather episode, characterized by heavy precipitation in the form of rain and snow, as well as significant wind intensifications. As a result, authorities issued red alerts for several regions, including Attica, the Peloponnese, and the island of Evia. Civil Protection recommended that the population limit travel and adopt necessary precautionary measures.
In Athens, the precipitation was persistent, and maritime activity was suspended, with all vessels being held in ports. In the Peloponnese, strong winds caused temporary disruptions to several railway connections. Although no major incidents were reported in the capital, meteorological services warned of the continuation of significant precipitation.
More serious situations were reported in the Corinth area, where the locality of Korfos was completely flooded, as well as in the central regions of the country, where heavy snowfall led to the isolation of some mountain settlements. In the surroundings of Thessaloniki, the snow layer was consistent, but no major dysfunctions were recorded.
