The decision of the authorities in Singapore is the first applied under the new Online Criminal Damage Act, which came into effect in February 2024. The Minister of Home Affairs, Goh Pei Ming, emphasized that Facebook is the main platform used by scammers, with one third of scams occurring on this network. Criticism of Meta has increased, with the government accusing the company of negligence in implementing security measures, such as user identity verification.
