Kaja Kallas, the head of the European Union's diplomacy, will sign a partnership agreement in the field of security and defense with Iceland on March 18, which resumes negotiations for EU membership. The agreement, prepared for some time, aims for closer cooperation in the face of hybrid threats and civil security. Initially scheduled for November, the signing was postponed due to tariffs imposed by the EU, but recent threats from the US have accelerated the dialogue. Iceland has approved a referendum to resume membership negotiations, and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot has suggested that Canada could one day join the European bloc. Although Canada has officially rejected the idea, discussions about potential membership have increased in the context of tensions with the US.
