The spending followed a major operation during the US President's visit in July, when he spent several days visiting resorts in South Ayrshire and Aberdeenshire, where he also hosted Keir Starmer and Scottish First Minister John Swinney. In a recent police meeting, Deputy Chief Constable Jane Connors said Trump's visit had put a significant strain on resources and staff, having had to spend £500,000 in July alone to compensate officers who were unable to take leave.
