Russia intensified its attacks on Ukraine in May, launching a record number of 8,150 long-range drones, according to an AFP analysis based on data from Ukrainian air forces.
This represents an increase of nearly 25% compared to April.
The attacks occurred despite a three-day ceasefire that was quickly violated by both sides.
Ukraine claims to have intercepted 91% of Russian drones and missiles, but is facing a shortage of ammunition for air defense systems. President Zelensky has requested additional assistance from the United States for Patriot defense systems, in the context of ongoing threats from Moscow.
