Russia is expanding its military infrastructure near European borders, which could allow for the stationing of over 100,000 troops in the future, according to an investigation conducted by Swedish journalists from SVT, along with other media in the region.
Analyzing satellite images, new barracks, ammunition depots, and military equipment staging areas have been identified in various locations, including Petsamo, Petrozavodsk, and Luga. The commander of the Finnish army, Pasi Välimäki, estimates that the number of Russian soldiers could increase from 20,000 to approximately 80,000.
The expansion of the base in Petsamo will allow for the accommodation of 17,000 troops, and in total, Russia could concentrate up to 115,000 soldiers at the borders with Northern Europe and the Baltic states.
Thomas Nilsson, head of the Swedish army's intelligence service, emphasizes that this situation represents a serious threat and is not just a demonstration, but a preparation for a large-scale conflict with NATO.
