Poland has discovered a huge oil and gas deposit in the Baltic Sea which could significantly reduce its dependence on imports.

Central European Petroleum has announced the discovery of Poland's largest oil and gas field, located 6 km off the Baltic coast near Świnoujście. Estimates suggest reserves of more than 33 million tons of oil and 27 billion cubic meters of natural gas, which could double the country's oil production and increase gas output by 20%. The discovery is seen as key to Poland's energy independence, which currently imports 95% of its crude oil needs.
