Poland is in negotiations with the United States to import additional volumes of liquefied natural gas (LNG), intended for the supply of Ukraine and Slovakia, according to sources cited by Reuters. The agreement would strengthen energy ties between the European Union and the U.S., in the context of efforts to reduce dependence on Russian gas. It is expected that the parties will sign a joint declaration regarding the intensification of LNG imports following a transatlantic conference on energy issues that will take place in Athens.
Estimated deliveries through Poland could reach 4-5 billion cubic meters annually, equivalent to Slovakia's annual gas consumption. This initiative is part of a series of recent energy agreements between governments and companies from Europe and the U.S., in the context of Washington's efforts to boost gas and nuclear technology exports to allies in Europe. The U.S. Department of Energy did not comment on the information, and the Polish Ministry of Energy declined to provide further details.
