Energy ministers from the United States and European countries met on Thursday in Athens to discuss the use of a recently modernized regional pipeline network, aimed at improving the supply of war-affected Ukraine. The meeting was hosted by the Atlantic Council and included American officials, energy ministers from the European Union, and executives from the liquefied natural gas sector.

U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright emphasized the importance of phasing out Russian gas supplies to the EU, believing that this would weaken Russia's ability to continue the conflict. In the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, EU member states have accelerated changes to pipeline networks to replace Russian gas with LNG from the U.S. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis highlighted Greece's strategic position as an entry point for American liquefied natural gas into Europe.
