The Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, announced that the country will abandon the measures to cap fuel prices this summer, considering the expectations of reducing tensions related to the conflict with Iran and stabilizing energy prices.
In March, the Polish government implemented a package of measures to protect the population from rising energy prices, including reducing VAT on fuels from 23% to 8% and lowering excise duties. These measures have been periodically extended, but recently the authorities decided to extend only the VAT reduction and the capping of prices until the end of June, without extending the reduction of excise duties.
Tusk emphasized that Poland had the cheapest fuels in Europe during the crisis and that the program will be completed in the summer, relying on a relaxation of geopolitical tensions and stabilization of international energy markets.
