Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan declared on Thursday that he expects diesel prices to gradually decrease in July so that by the end of the month, once the stocks purchased at high prices are exhausted, the prices in the Romanian market will be those from before the onset of the Gulf conflict. However, if prices do not decrease, the Government will promote a new price capping scheme for fuels in Parliament, according to the Prime Minister.

Bolojan explained that, following discussions with operators in the field, a decrease in fuel prices is expected starting in July, as the stocks purchased at high prices are depleted. The Prime Minister emphasized that if prices do not decrease as expected, the Government will propose a new capping scheme.

He also mentioned earlier that the Government does not have the capacity to issue ordinances for market interventions, but expects the market to self-regulate.

We remind that the measure of capping the excise duty on diesel, introduced in April, has expired, and the Deputy Prime Minister and interim Minister of Agriculture, Tánczos Barna, stated that the price of diesel in Romania is "unacceptably high".
