During a visit to Berlin, Mark Rutte urged NATO states to step up their arms production, noting that Poland, Romania and Estonia are buying equipment from South Korea because of delays in purchases from Europe and the US. Rutte emphasized NATO's commitment to increase military spending to 5% of GDP by 2035. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz confirmed that Germany will play a central role in the Alliance, with a focus on new technologies to equip the Bundeswehr. Both leaders expressed support for Ukraine and addressed threats from Russia and China.
