NATO allies have launched a new "call to action" for financial institutions, during the Defense Industry Forum at the NATO Summit in Ankara, aimed at increasing private capital investment in defense, security, and resilience.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte emphasized that it is essential to invest significantly more to meet the demand for defense capabilities. He pointed out that although private capital has increased, it remains insufficient. The call encourages financial institutions to increase lending and investments in the mentioned sectors, while allies are expected to strengthen internal financing mechanisms. The initiative has been supported by banking giants such as Banco Santander, Barclays, and Deutsche Bank, which have already mobilized $217 billion for defense.

Rutte stated that this is just the beginning and that he will work with the financial sector to further stimulate investments in defense.
