The UK government intends to allow businesses, schools, and farms to install small wind turbines, up to 30 meters in height, without requiring a building permit, as part of new proposals aimed at reducing energy bills and supporting clean energy. Energy Minister Michael Shanks stated that this initiative will provide organizations with the necessary tools to reduce their costs and use land efficiently.
These measures are part of a broader government plan to respond to the global energy crisis, influenced by the conflict between the US and Israel with Iran. The ministry also announced other initiatives, such as solar panels for balconies and accelerating the development of nuclear sites.
Current regulations limit development rights for wind turbines to small-scale ones, and the new proposals would extend these rights to non-domestic settings, thus helping to protect against fluctuations in fossil fuel markets. However, the proposals exclude conservation areas and national parks, ensuring the protection of landscapes and communities at the same time.
