Authorities in Great Britain have declared a 'State of Emergency' at the Sizewell B nuclear power plant, located in the east of the country, due to a vegetation fire that broke out nearby.
The fire started in the Dunwich Heath area, in Suffolk county, and has mobilized over 90 firefighters who are working to extinguish the wind-fueled blaze.
Although officials state that the plant is not in danger, the evacuation of locals and the recommendation to avoid the area have been imposed to facilitate intervention.
The fire is spreading over a large area of dry vegetation, and the fire-friendly weather conditions have been exacerbated by an unusually hot summer, with multiple heatwaves and droughts. Meteorologists had warned that vegetation fires in southern England could quickly escalate, prompting the rapid mobilization of response teams.
