The Malaysian Minister of Defense, Mohamed Khaled Nordin, stated that the government in Kuala Lumpur intends to seek compensation and to address the judiciary following the revocation of the export license for a missile system intended for the Malaysian military navy by Norway. This decision was made a few days before the delivery of the system, and Malaysia has already paid nearly 95% of the contract value.
The contract, concluded with the Norwegian group Kongsberg, provided for the delivery of NSM missiles for six coastal combat ships. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim called Norway's decision "unilateral and unacceptable," emphasizing that it will severely affect the country's defense capability.
The LCS project, which aimed to equip the Malaysian navy, was relaunched in 2023 after corruption allegations. Although the program will continue, the delivery of the first ship has been postponed, and Malaysia is seeking alternative solutions for the missile system.
