On October 27, in Paris, the trial begins against ten individuals, eight men and two women, accused of cyber harassment of Brigitte Macron. These accusations were generated by unfounded rumors suggesting that the First Lady was assigned a male at birth, a claim that has circulated for years. The trial comes after Brigitte and President Emmanuel Macron filed a defamation lawsuit in the U.S. related to these rumors. If found guilty, the accused face up to two years in prison. Among the accused are Aurelien Poirson-Atlan, known on social media, and Delphine J., a self-proclaimed medium, who has previously been involved in defamation complaints. These claims have been amplified by far-right circles and conspiracy theorists, both in France and in the U.S., where transgender rights are a controversial topic. The presidential couple intends to present scientific evidence to counter these accusations. Additionally, other influential women in politics, such as Michelle Obama and Kamala Harris, have been targets of gender-related disinformation.
