The Paris prosecutor's office announced on Tuesday the opening of an investigation into disinformation campaigns targeting two potential candidates for the 2027 presidential elections in France, Edouard Philippe and Gabriel Attal. The false information circulating online included fabricated videos claiming that Philippe, suffering from alopecia, would have a neurodegenerative disease, while Attal was accused of drug use and Parkinson's disease.

Attal filed a complaint, denouncing these reports as false, while Philippe avoided public comments, although his allies suggested possible Russian interference. The Viginum agency identified Russian-affiliated networks as possible suspects in these disinformation campaigns, which reflect a similar strategy used in the elections in Germany. The presidential elections in France are scheduled for the spring of 2027.
