A serious incident occurred on American Airlines flight 2398 when a laptop caught fire, causing burns to four or five passengers. The pilot reported a 'fire in the cabin' and the crew quickly intervened to extinguish the flames.
The flight, which was coming from Atlanta, Georgia, landed safely at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. One person required medical attention but was later discharged. American Airlines thanked the crew for their prompt response. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) warns that lithium batteries, including those in laptops, can overheat for various reasons, and 58 incidents related to these batteries have been reported this year. The FAA recommends that lithium batteries be transported only in carry-on luggage. Additionally, aviation authorities in the United Kingdom have highlighted the increasing risks associated with portable chargers, which can cause fires on flights.
