At least nine aircraft were affected by bomb alerts on Thursday morning, including one that made an emergency landing at Otopeni Airport. Bomb threats mobilized authorities in six countries on Thursday: Romania, France, Belgium, Bulgaria, Austria and Italy, reports The Guardian. The incidents come after several commercial flights in Europe were targeted by similar alerts in recent days.
The first incident on Thursday was reported aboard an Airbus A320 operating the Dublin–Rome route. It was diverted to the air base in Évreux, in northern France, following a bomb alert, and was escorted by a French Rafale fighter jet. There were 151 passengers and the six crew members aboard the aircraft, while bomb disposal experts went to the scene to inspect the aircraft following an initial report from the Italian authorities.
Meanwhile, a similar alert targeted a LOT Polish Airlines flight from Warsaw to Brussels, which landed safely at Zaventem Airport. In Bulgarian airspace, three Ryanair flights were targeted simultaneously; two were diverted to Sofia, while the third was diverted to Plovdiv. In addition, a WizzAir flight from Milan to Warsaw landed in Vienna, while a Finnair flight from Helsinki to Rome was targeted by threats.
