An Airbus A320 flying on the Dublin-Rome route was diverted on Thursday to the air base in Évreux, in the Eure department, in northern France, after a bomb alert was triggered. French authorities are monitoring the situation in real time, according to the prime minister’s services, which stated that the procedures provided for in such cases are being applied.
So far, no details have been announced about the origin of the alert, the number of passengers on board, or the measures being carried out at the air base. The aircraft was redirected for security checks.
The incident comes after, on Tuesday, at least seven commercial flights in Europe were targeted by bomb alerts. Inspections did not identify any suspicious devices, but the threats led to aircraft diversions, additional checks, and the temporary closure of several airports.
The affected flights included Ryanair, SAS, LOT, and Wizz Air aircraft. In Italy, two Ryanair planes from Rome-Fiumicino were checked after an anonymous report, while in Bulgaria, two aircraft arriving in Sofia were inspected. A day earlier, a Wizz Air plane on the London-Sofia route made an emergency landing in Budapest, escorted by Hungarian fighter jets.
