The Kremlin accused Ukraine on Thursday of undermining the United States’ efforts to initiate peace negotiations, after a Ukrainian drone struck, on the night from Wednesday to Thursday, a refinery in Russia’s Ryazan region. The attack caused a fire, according to the regional governor.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov claimed that Moscow had not observed Kyiv honoring the energy ceasefire and stated that the attack was nothing new. He accused President Volodymyr Zelensky of refusing to pursue peace.
US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday a ceasefire concerning energy infrastructure. Ukraine said it had suspended its attacks for three days after learning about the agreement from the media. Russia has not publicly committed to the ceasefire and maintained that its terms had not been clarified.
On Wednesday, Moscow announced that it had attacked seven energy facilities in Ukraine. Kyiv says it is resuming its operations because Russia continues strikes against its infrastructure.
