Russia attacked energy facilities in Ukraine after US President Donald Trump announced an energy truce between Kyiv and Moscow, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday. He claims that the attacks targeted a power plant in Kyiv and energy facilities in the Kharkiv region.
According to Zelenskyy, the strikes took place after Donald Trump's public statement regarding the cessation of attacks on the energy infrastructure of the two countries. The Ukrainian president made the statements in a Facebook post after a discussion with Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission.
Trump had previously announced on the Truth Social network that Russia and Ukraine had agreed, “with immediate effect,” to stop attacks against each other's energy infrastructure. He asked both states not to violate the agreement, without providing details about the duration, verification mechanisms, or implementation of the truce.
Zelenskyy's statement thus raises questions regarding compliance with the agreement announced by the American leader and the exact timing of the attacks.
