Ukrainian forces attacked several targets in Russia on Saturday night into Sunday, including the refinery in Ryazan, an airfield in Rostov-on-Don, and three air defense installations. The attacks took place after U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner left Moscow, where they had discussed negotiations to end the war with Vladimir Putin for more than three hours. The Ukrainian General Staff announced that a fire broke out at the refinery in Ryazan. The complex has a processing capacity of approximately 17 million tons of oil per year and produces gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel, and other products used, among others, by Russia’s defense industry. The extent of the damage is being assessed.

In the Rostov region, Ukraine claims to have struck the Rostov-on-Don airfield, a Podlet-type radar station, and two Pantsir-S1 air defense systems. A fire was observed near the airfield, but no details about the destruction were provided. The attacks took place amid intensified diplomatic contacts. After meeting with Putin, Witkoff and Kushner traveled to Kyiv, where they met with Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Russia temporarily suspended strikes on Kyiv, while Ukraine announced a similar pause in attacks on Moscow. The measures apply only to the two capitals and do not represent a general ceasefire.
